Hank – The sun was shining brightly as we left the hotel. We had about eight miles of US Hwy 50 to get through and it was under construction. No problem. We just rode through the construction area. It worked out fine and the few constructioneers we saw said nothing. And we crossed back into Ohio.

Next we got on the Great Miami River Road. Three guesses as to what river the road follows and the first two don’t count. The road is in poor shape. There are patches, pot holes, and cracks a plenty. And it’s narrow with truck traffic. It was not very fun.

We got off that road in Ross, Ohio and got something to eat. We didn’t want to shell out for a hotel tonight if we didn’t have to. And there’s only one to choose from within the distance we wanted to cover. I called the town of New Miami to see if we could tent in their park overnight. The chief of police approved it so we had a place to stay.

As we approached New Miami from the south a thunderstorm was coming from the north. We crossed the finish line with a minute to spare before the downpour started. We sat in a baseball dugout until it passed. Once it cleared we went to the covered pavilion and set up the tent.

We are next to a highway and railroad tracks. Several trains have come through during the first four hours. We’re going to sleep like babies.

Kathy’s brother, Stan, called us around 7:30 and offered to pick us up. We turned him down because who would want to give up this little piece of heaven, right?

Kathy – Today we only rode 37 miles but we had to work for them. We monitored the weather closely and just like yesterday we managed to avoid any big downpours of rain and thunderstorms. The temps were in the low 80’s but thankfully it felt cooler with the cloudy skies. We were on a back road a lot of our day (18 miles) where we constantly rolled up and down on some pretty bad roads with lots of potholes. We also had lots of turning back and forth on the winding road, along with lots of car and truck traffic to deal with. I don’t know how much elevation gain we had, but it was a bunch… And with that said it was a tough ride so I’m giving myself a “participation medal” for all my hard work today! 🏅 There, I feel better now. 😄

We rode near the Great Miami River a lot of today. Don’t think of palm trees, clear blue water and gorgeous sunsets. The Great Miami River is really just a muddy river in Ohio. Nothing fancy here people. 🌴☀️⛈

We finished up our riding in the great state of Indiana and returned to Ohio. Yesterday I planted my flower seeds for Indiana on the Dearborn Trail in Aurora, Indiana. Hopefully they will grow and the runners, walkers and cyclists can enjoy their beauty for years to come. 🌺🌻🌹

We managed to avoid the severe thunderstorms all around us today. We arrived at the Veterans Park in New Miami, Ohio about one minute before the crazy thunderstorms began. Sitting in the baseball field dugout for about an hour while the storms passed just added to our adventures. 😁 Lucky for us to make it there in just the nick of time. 🍀🍀🍀

Tomorrow we arrive in Dayton, Ohio where we will spend a few days with my brother Stan and his wife Rhonda. We also plan to visit some family friends, Josh & Gail Forbes. After that it is onward to our 48th state, West Virginia!
