Hank – We rented bikes from Pablo’s Bike Rentals and headed out onto the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. What a thrill to be able to ride fast. The trail is awesome and gorgeous. From downtown Anchorage you head west and follow the coastline for 11 miles to Kincaid Park. From there you can return via roads–Anchorage has lots of bike lanes and bike paths–or just follow the trail back. We did the latter.
About a mile or so from the rental shop I got a flat. It looked like someone purposely bent a safety pin and left it on the trail to flat a tire. They succeeded. I walked the bike back to the shop. Pablo was kind to us and reduced our rental cost. That was very generous of him.
Kathy – Yippee, we rode our 49th State – Alaska today! We rode a total of 25 miles in sunny mid 70 degree weather. It was absolutely beautiful outside and without a doubt, I could have ridden another 25 miles or more. We rented bikes that were super lightweight, and no pannier bags hanging on them! We climbed 879 feet but it was so easy without the extra bike weight that I hardly even noticed it.
Riding bikes allows you to see, feel, smell, and almost taste the environment around you. Today was a wonderful riding day to experience it all. Happiness was in my bones as we rode light and fast, feeling the warm sunshine upon our faces. The many luscious green plants, sweet summer flowers, and the beautiful water next to us made for a pretty spectacular ride. What a great way to see Anchorage, Alaska!
I planted my Alaska flower seeds today near the trail in Pointe Woronzof Park overlooking the water of the Cook Inlet. I planted “Alaska Shasta Daisy” flowers which grow wild here. I just added a few more to brighten up the beautiful Alaska landscapes a little more. 🌺🌼🌸
