Cross Country Drive

Hank – We drove a lot. It was not fun. But seeing my sister and her husband in Boise and aunts, uncles, and cousins in Portland made it worth the trip.

Kathy – It took us 13 months to ride about the 48 contiguous United States, and it only took us five days to travel back to the Pacific Northwest.

Day 1 – Charleston, West Virginia to O’Fallon, Illinois – 490 miles.

Day 2 – O’Fallon, Illinois to Limon, Colorado – 780 miles.

Day 3 – Limon, Colorado to Ogden, Utah – 620 miles.

Day 4 – Ogden, Utah to Boise, Idaho – 305 miles.

Day 5 – Boise, Idaho to Portland, Oregon – 430 miles.

We drove a total of 2,625 miles and passed through eleven states – West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Oregon. The weather was good and for some reason the wind and elevation didn’t bother us a bit…in the rental car. 😄

We enjoyed our time in Boise, Idaho with Hank’s sister Jan and her husband Chip.  They are totally awesome people who we love to spend time with.  Jan is a college English professor at Boise State University and Chip is a Family Practice physician.  These two are always exercising to remain in the best health.  We are just in OK shape compared to these two.  While their physical health is important, know they are some of the kindest, caring and compassionate people you could ever meet.  After being in the rental car for so long, we really enjoyed a nice hike with Jan and Chip.  The best part of our day in Boise was just having time and great conversations with these outstanding individuals.

The next day we packed up the rental car and drove our last day to Portland, Oregon.  We are happy to be back in the Pacific Time Zone!  We are spending a few days in Portland with Hank’s Aunt Janet and Uncle Mike who are such amazing people as well.  We were thrilled to be done driving and more than happy to turn in the rental car.  We will write about our time in Portland soon.  And then we will be back on the bikes heading up to Washington State!
