Chillicothe, Ohio

Hank – We left Octa when we wanted this morning because we weren’t under pressure to get to Chillicothe at any particular time. We had roadway for the first 12 or so miles. Then we were on paved bike trail the rest of the way. Again, kudos to Ohio for creating great trails.

At first we were hoping to camp tonight. I called the parks office in Chillicothe to see if we could camp overnight. It took about fours for them to turn me down. They gave me the number to the county parks office and said they might be able to help me. I called that number and talked to Miranda. She was excited to hear about our adventure and sad to turn us down because all the county land is wildlife preserve with no camping allowed. But she did invite us to camp at her house. Awesome! More on that later.

The trail ride was so peaceful today. We arrived in Chillicothe but I hadn’t heard back from Miranda. She was supposed to text me from her personal phone. Since it had been about four hours and we wanted to get set up somewhere, I went ahead and grabbed a cheap hotel room. I figured Miranda had a change of heart or lost my number. Either way, no feelings hurt

After we cleaned up I went out to bring some dinner to the room. Miranda called me. She was waiting for my call and wanted to make sure we were okay. So we missed out on staying with her thanks to some communication confusion. Bummer. I thanked her again for the offer and for checking on us.

By the way, it’s pronounced chill-i-caw-thee.

Kathy – We rode 47 miles today in sunny low 80 degree temps. Not too much elevation and on a bike trail most of our day. I’m not feeling up to par today. My left shoulder is still healing and it’s causing some pain while riding. Also, my body kinda aches all over. So, I was happy to be done with our ride today. It really was a beautiful ride seeing all the countryside. I listened to my iTunes music mainly to just get through the day. Not sure if I am coming down with something or just a funk day, but either way I sure hope tomorrow is a better day.

I decided to get a hotel tonight to escape the heat and hopefully get a good night sleep. 💗💗💗
