White House, Tennessee

Hank – Kathy didn’t sleep well last night because of the heat. To save her some miles I returned the rental and rode my bike back to the hostel. I thought it best to get a hotel with some A/C so she could get a good night’s sleep so we set White House, TN as our destination.

Even though it was only 28 miles, it was a very hot and humid day. I was sweating up a storm. We arrived around 1:00 pm and a room was available so we checked in, cleaned up, and cooled off. The heat continues tomorrow so we’ll get a good night’s sleep and get up early for our 50-mile ride to Bowling Green.

Kathy – We stayed four nights at the hostel in Nashville, Tennessee. Their air conditioning was being worked on the entire time, and temps outside were in the 90’s, that meant four hot nights with very little sleep for me. The night heat bothers me more than it does Hank. It was really odd that the air conditioning worked great in the hallways and the main commons area, just not in the sleeping rooms. We had our room door propped open while we were awake to try to get some of the hallway cooler air in our room but it really didn’t help that much. They also gave us a fan which didn’t help much either. They kept hoping each day the air conditioning would be fixed. Well, it wasn’t fixed during our time at the hostel.

It really is a nice hostel with extremely nice people, but the lack of real concern for the hot sleeping rooms was just too much. When I talked to them multiple time they pretty much kept saying, “Oh sorry, were working on it.” I felt they were just trying to pacify me until I went away. Other than the fan, nothing was offered to fix the problem. Apparently there were some sleeping rooms that the air conditioning was working in. This is a four story complex with lots of rooms. No offer to change sleeping rooms and no compensation in regards to a discount in our bill. Maybe they didn’t see the urgency because it was cool in the commons area where the employees are…and maybe I should have been more direct with them and demanded to be moved to an air conditioned sleeping room after the first night (sometimes I’m too nice). Regardless, too late now.

Because of the heat, I averaged about three hours sleep per night. It was miserably hot. I sucked it up in the mornings and drank lots of tea to keep me going as we were out and about seeing sights.

However after four nights of limited sleep I’m starting to get pretty crabby. I have been awake today since 3am. I really didn’t want to get on that bike today, but I did. Today’s temps are in the high 80’s to low 90’s with 100% humidity. We decided to only ride the 28 miles to White House, Tennessee. We climbed about the whole time with 1,600 feet of elevation. Happy the ride is done.

My plan today was to talk a little as possible because my tiredness and crabbiness is not an excuse to snap at Hank. No need to take my lack of sleep irritability out on my sweet husband. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking…Kathy, quiet…but I can actually be quiet at times🙊😄.

We initially had planned to camp tonight, but with the temps so hot and me being tired, we decided to get a hotel room (with working air conditioning). Hoping to get some sleep tonight and no doubt I will feel much better in the morning. 💕
