Meeting with Previous Coworkers

Kathy – We packed the bikes and bags in the rental van and said our thank you’s and goodbyes to Kevin and Miriam. We are so appreciative for all their kindness. Part of this adventure is moving on and it is always hard to leave family, friends, and new found friends…but onward we must go. We left San Diego, California and headed north a few hours (that’s car travel time, bike travel time would have been two days or more) to meet up with a few of my old coworkers.

These ladies are coworkers but also friends. I worked with Mary Lou and Mary Jane on different hospital operational improvement projects. You become almost like family when you travel and work together every week. Because our team was so close, during the small amount downtime we had we often ate, exercised, and just hung out together. So I would say we are more friends now rather than just previous coworkers.

Mary Jane and Mary Lou both live in the Los Angeles area so we met at a restaurant in Long Beach. We got to the restaurant a little early so we took a nice long walk along the beach, which was very beautiful and peaceful. We met these two lovely ladies for lunch and we talked for hours. They both are doing fantastic and it was pure joy just to hang out with them. We caught up on each other’s lives and future plans. Both of them have some exciting times coming up in their lives where they are both taking leaps of faith. I love their willingness to break out of their comfort zones, take some chances and do something different. Mary Jane is soon making some super big changes in her life which out of privacy I won’t discuss here. But she said something to think about that her mother used to ask her growing up, “If you had a million dollars what would you do?” She didn’t have a million dollars to do whatever she liked, but she decided to do it anyway. I love this spunk. Remember, you don’t know your death date, so do what you want now…while you still can. Life is much too short to worry about things like your unhappy job, your few pounds overweight, and your struggling relationship with others. Focus on being responsible, taking chances and enjoying life. Enough on the soapbox…

By the way, we thought that since the gate to the parking lot was up and it was a Sunday that parking was free. It turned out to be the most expensive parking we’ve ever had.

I also met up with my previous director Laurie. It was absolutely delightful to see her! She is doing amazingly well with her professional and personal life. Laurie went through some tough times and I am so happy to see her thriving and enjoying life so much now. She is such a sweetheart and deserves much happiness. Our time together passed by much too quickly but it was great to catch up with her. I’m thankful for her taking time out of her very busy schedule to meet up with us. She also insisted in paying for our meal which we greatly appreciate. Thank you Laurie!

Having time with previous coworkers, or should I now say friends was super fantastic. Mary Lou, Mary Jane and Laurie are all strong, successful and wonderful women. I am thankful for our time together and their friendship. I wish them all the best in life. It truly was fantastic to spend time together. Love all these ladies. 💗

  2. Reminds me when my wife while working downtown at the banner bank, decided to park in the handicap spot, boy was that expensive! I think she learned her lesson on that issue since she had to pay the fine. Lol
