Hank – We arrived in Palouse and were pleased with what we found. The Palouse Caboose has great food and drinks. There’s a public bathroom downtown and at the city park that are open 24 hours. And we can camp at the Lion’s Club campground just across the river for $7.00. Pay the lady at the Palouse Market.
We met Jason and Rani Lucas of Washougal. They had their dog, Mijo, with them. We got to talking with them about our adventure and I asked if I could take a picture of us with their dog. “Why?” Jason asked. I told him about Gunnar’s idea of hauling a dog on the trip and my idea for adopting a dog for a day. He thought that was pretty funny and let us have at it. Mijo was not as into it as much as we were but he didn’t complain. While Kathy and I ate dinner we were wondering where we would camp the night. I asked Jess, our waitperson at the Palouse Caboose, if she knew people. She said she did. I asked her if she could find out where we could camp overnight since it’s not allowed in the city park. She went back to talk to people she knew and came back with the news about the Lion’s Club campground. How cool is that? The Palouse Caboose will be open for breakfast in the morning so we’ll be back tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a lazy 15-mile day to Pullman.
Kathy – Overall, it was a wonderful day. We did 35 miles total. We met many nice people, but the Palouse Caboose has some of the best food and people in the area. Kim, the owner was so welcoming. If you are in the neighborhood, be sure to check it out!. Good Night. 🙂

Hank, so glad to hear you switched to the trucker. While it’s a rad sentiment to tour the country on a frame that’s hand built in Spokane, 16 months on the road is waaaay too long to be sacrificing comfort because of geometry that’s not dedicated to the task.
I can’t begin to tell you both how much I DIG your chill vibe and willingness to revise your plans/schedule. By my calculations, you’re 2 days in and have something like 480 to go. I can only imagine the requirement for a certain level of comfort, whatever that means, that is necessary in order to sustain your spirits on a trip of this length. It appears that you guys are in the initial stages of dialing this in. Damn, so cool.

Thank you, Pat. This is way out of Kathy’s comfort zone so it’s a serious lifestyle change for her. But we don’t have to be anywhere on time and we want to make this an good experience so being chill is a must for this to work.
